We told you last week that George Zimmerman, Trayvon Martin's killer, launched a website seeking donations and supporters. What we learned this week is that Zimmerman has yet again displayed poor judgment in what he chose to include on that site.
On therealgeorgezimmerman.com, Zimmerman, who has been in hiding since the fatal night when he shot the unarmed 17-year-old, asks for donations to support his “living expenses and legal defense.” He goes on to say: “I have created a Paypal account solely linked on this website as I would like to provide an avenue to thank my supporters personally and ensure that any funds provided are used only for living expenses and legal defense, in lieu of my forced inability to maintain employment. I will also personally, maintain accountability of all funds received.”
Under the tab "The Facts," Zimmerman writes: "I am grateful to my friends that have come to my aid, whether publicly or personally, never questioning my integrity or actions, understanding that I cannot discuss the details of the event on February 26th, and allowing law enforcement to proceed with their investigation unhindered. Once again, I thank you for your patience and I assure you, the facts will come to light."
The site, which has been confirmed as legitimate by Zimmerman's lawyer, includes two images that are questionable at best. One image is of vandalism on the wall of Ohio State University’s Black Cultural Center that reads "Long Live George Zimmerman." The other image is a poster that reads: "Justice for Zimmerman" created by supporters of Koran-burning pastor Terry Jones.
Really? I mean, really? The only images of support that you can find are from vandals and a hate-monger? Critics of Zimmerman and Florida's Stand Your Ground law aren't seeking to be the judge and jury in the case of the death of Trayvon, but what they are asking for is that a judge hear the case. Sadly, with news that special prosecutor Angela Corey won't take the case to a grand jury, it appears that justice for Trayvon may not happen.
