White Officer Who Brutally Shot 17-Year-Old Laquan McDonald 16 Times Found Guilty Of Second-Degree Murder
Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke has been found guilty of second-degree murder for the 2014 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.
On Friday (October 5), the jury found Van Dyke guilty of 16 counts of aggravated battery however, he was not found guilty of official misconduct. The officer’s bond was revoked and his sentencing is scheduled for October 31. He was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.
Originally, Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder, but jurors were instructed on Thursday that they could also consider a second-degree charge. Van Dyke was the first Chicago police officer to be charged with first-degree murder since 1980.
Protests erupted after video of the shooting became public in 2015. Social media is now reacting and most are rejoicing that justice was done.
