Kyrie Irving Blasts Cleveland Browns Josh Gordon
Kyrie Irving and Josh Gordon play for the same Cleveland city. But Irving wants Gordon to limit his opinions to his own sport.
Irving, the Cleveland Cavaliers star point guard, recently ripped into Gordon, a Cleveland Browns wide receiver, for sticking his nose into matters affecting the Cavs.
"Guys like Josh Gordon need to stay in his sport and mind his own business," Irving recently told the Akron Beacon Journal. "Does he still play for the Browns? I’ll continue to root for the Browns, but in terms of this stuff here, what goes on in this locker room, he needs to stay out of it."
Irving blasting Gordon comes after the Browns' wide receiver spoke on a reported rift between Irving and teammate Dion Waiters.
"I talked about it with Dion. He’s my neighbor in my building so we hang out all the time," Gordon said on ESPN’s First Take last week. "I’m aware of the rift in the locker room. That’s just alpha males and supreme athletes trying to share the spotlight."
When approached by the Akron Beacon Journal about Gordon’s comments, Waiters seemed to distance himself.
"[He] can’t put words in my mouth," Waiters said. "That’s his opinion. That’s what he thinks. I can’t stop a man from saying that. That’s what he thinks."
All season long, reports have surfaced about Irving and Waiters bumping heads about their playing styles and possession of the ball, but they’ve seemed committed to improving their working relationship since the All-Star break.
"You’re not always going to see eye to eye," Waiters told the Akron Beacon Journal. "That’s even with the best. Some of the best players who ever played with each other, [Michael] Jordan and [Scottie] Pippen, LeBron [James] and [Dwyane] Wade, their first couple years they lost. We know we’ve got a chance to have something special. We know what’s at stake. We know we need one another to produce."
Irving and Waiters lead the Cavs in scoring with 21.3 and 13.5 points per game, respectively. The Cavaliers are 31-47 with the 2013-14 season winding down.
