B*Real had a chance to view Smith’s Fall/Winter 2016 presentation during New York Fashion Week on February 14. The collection maintains the designer’s ultra-sleek lines and feminine silhouettes, with some surprising twists along the way. (More on the fashions in a moment.) Needless to say, you’ll want to get your hands on everything in the line! Here’s the inside scoop on what went down inside the show.
Smith held his presentation in the contemporary Jack Studios in Manhattan. Inside, guests bopped and swayed to beats spun by DJ Angel + Dren, and were treated to light bites from celebrity Chef Roble Ali and specialty cocktails by Hendrick’s Gin. The designer’s A-list clients and friends turned out to support in full force: Karrueche Tran, Justine Skye, June Ambrose, E.J. Johnson, and J. Alexander were among the packed house of revelers.

The collection is a fashionista’s dream: separates in neutral hues that feel high-end, yet are easy to integrate into any cold-weather ensemble. Smith rolled out a unified presentation that included smart satin culottes, embossed bodysuits, turtleneck sweater dresses, oversized quilted hooded dresses, embossed bomber jackets, suede thigh-high boots and neoprene booties.

His evening dresses mixed the whimsical and daring, utilizing a high-shine metallic finish and sheer texture for a jaw-dropping impression.
“The new collection explores androgyny with shape, texture and sheer simplicity,” Smith told B*Real via e-mail. Asked which stars he’d like to dress in 2016, he added, “Amal Clooney, Blake Lively, Oprah and Michelle Obama.” Not a bad lineup!

Texture and proportion also played a key for A/W ‘16, as sleek fitted high-slit skirts in velvet, iridescent mini dresses and long evening gowns were teamed with oversized bomber jackets. A luxurious color palette of warm creams, black, cool nudes, hunter green, burgundy and gold is seasonal yet appropriate for wear year-round — with the right styling, of course.

The good news? Pieces from the A/W ‘16 are availalble for purchase at http://www.laquansmith.com/.
