Dame Dash Faces Eviction From New York Home
He made millions building the Roc dynasty with Jay-Z, but now it looks as if Dame Dash is the one with 99 problems. The once top hip hop impresario is facing the possibility of wage garnishments and eviction due to massive financial debt.
According to the New York Daily News, Dash claimed in court filings that he is inundated with personal bills, including $24,000 every three months in alimony to his ex-wife, clothing designer Rachel Roy.
Swamped with debt, Dash submitted a sworn statement to a judge requesting that his wages not be garnished to pay off creditors. The Harlem-born music man turned fashion mogul is asking for leniency as he attempts to get a handle on his finances.
"I am currently over $100,000 behind in rent for the only home in which I live and at risk of being evicted," said Dash in the filing.
Losing the roof over his head is not new to Dash, who lost two multi-million dollar Tribeca lofts to foreclosure in 2010. In addition to alimony payments, Dash also pays $4,341 in child support for his son (from a different relationship).
Dash has racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt via lawsuits, including a $237,078 loan he never repaid to a garment industry lender. Other suits have been filed by landlords, a bodyguard firm and fashion designer Charlotte Ronson. He reportedly paid nearly $20,000 in garnished wages in 2012 for other monies he owed.
The news of Dame's financial hardships comes just one month after the former Roc-A-Fella Records CEO appeared on the Combat Jack show where he boasted about his many business ventures including clothing, art galleries overseas and a magazine.
Though his court filings made him out to be in dire straits, Dame dismissed that notion via an email sent by his attorney, Gregg Pinto.
"I'm an independent businessman and this is what comes from business ... I have the guts to fight my battles on my own and it's entertainment to everybody else because I'm so cool about it."
