Watch: Martial Arts Instructor Powerfully Teaches Young Student It's OK to Cry

Jason Wilson is trying to change our ideas of masculinity.

Jason Wilson is an instructor of Musar Ru, a combination of meditation and martial arts that considers both mind and body as vessels of strength. Now, a video demonstrating the power of the technique has gone viral and provides a valuable lesson that controlling your emotions doesn't mean denying them.

In the video that has garnered over 1.3 million views, a 9-year-old boy named Bruce attempts to break through a wooden board when he begins to cry. How Wilson helped Bruce deal with his frustration and support the young boy is both informative and incredibly inspiring, especially considering the traditional views of masculinity typically fostered by sports.

After Wilson realizes that Bruce is crying, he says, "You know in life there's going to be things harder to do than other things?" He adds that some of those challenges are "going to take tears." He continues to encourage the young boy, who ultimately is able to punch though the wooden plank with ease.

Wilson explained that he wanted to share the video online "to encourage all of you to not only allow your sons to cry when facing emotional stress, but more importantly, patiently walk them through it."

He later told Upworthy, "What we are witnessing is a generation of boys who were fathered by men who were given by their fathers a false sense of masculinity," he said. "It's imperative that we, the men and fathers of this generation, do not allow our boys to grow up the way many of us did."

Wilson taught us all a very important lesson through this video, and if it continues to spread, more men and women will learn how to cope with their emotions in a healthy, productive way.
