If nothing else, DJ Akshen definitely did not have to worry about jet lag when it came to this year’s Red Bull Thre3style National Final. 

The hometown favorite took the title at the regional qualifier and now he prepares to welcome in the competition. As for what’s catching his ear right now, Akshen (like Terrell Owens) is loving him some him.

“I’m listening to my Red Bull Thre3style set to be honest,” Akshen tells BET.com. "Because I play so many different genres from many different time periods, I don’t have a top five at the moment,” he added. 

Like us fans, DJ Akshen has been digging the blast of high power MCs (Drake, Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar) dropping albums in 2015, but he says when it comes to repping for his set, there is no clear cut favorite.

 “The one that probably gets the best response is Kendrick's [album] because the album is the most recent,” noted Akshen. He clarified, “I don’t really have a favorite of the three. I am a fan of all their music.”

Whether or not the Phoenix native wins the title, he will inevitably get to fulfill one lifelong goal: Playing in front of a few of his heroes.

“My influences are DJ Jazzy Jeff, Z-Trip, Q-Bert, Craze and A-Trak.” We’ll see if his dream of taking his talents to the World Final in Tokyo come true as well as we keep up with DJ Akshen and the rest of this year’s regional qualifiers.
