“There’s a difference between lying in a song and writing a story. There are tons of songs where people are just lying,” she told the publication. “There’s a lot of that in rap right now, from people that I know who rap. It’s like, ‘I got my AK-47, and I’m f**kin’...’ and I’m like, what? You don’t have a gun. ‘And all my b**ches….’ I’m like, which b**ches? That’s posturing, and that’s not what I’m doing.”

Although her remarks were promptly met with backlash, they also ignited an intense debate within hip-hop circles. While many were offended by Eilish’s words, others found some truth in her words. Styles P weighed in with his thoughts on the matter via Twitter on Wednesday (Feb. 5).

First, Styles wondered why so many people were incensed by what Eilish said in the first place. Even though he admits that “she is sorta of right,” he felt that people were giving her words too much value. 

“She don’t get the culture nor is she part of it so why do we give a f**k?” he posed. “How or why is her opinion important to us?”
“We don't have to care what she thinks, but she's saying the same things many of us do on a bigger platform,” one user chimed in under his comments. “Rappers these days don't live the life at all that their music says. And she's allowed to have an opinion, even more so if she's not wrong. She's just a messenger.”

“Why are rappers held up to a standard no one else is?” Styles then questioned. He added that rappers should be afforded the artistic liberty to say whatever they want instead of bending to certain standards. 

“Is Martin Scorsese and Bobby D living that life?? Is Slyvester Stallone out here shooting shot up like in Rambo? No!!!” he countered. “And why does she care if she ain’t a rapper?” 

“Society always has some sorta standard for rappers that no one else has to live up to...it’s kind of silly,” Styles continued. “Rappers are human and, eat, s**t, and bleed and cry just like you. Stop putting us on such a high pedestal because you feel we should or shouldn’t do something.”

The conversation spilled over into a full-on debate on the social platform as other people joined in on the discussion. However, The LOX rapper didn’t budge from his stance. 

“I’ve lied in a lot of rhymes!! I’ve rhymed about having and doing s**t I didn’t or couldn’t,” he confessed in a follow-up tweet. “And those lies got me to be able to live nice and do nice s**t. 

Simply  put, Styles felt that “if you don’t like something, don’t listen to it.”
