Tyler, the Creator Delivers Freestyle Over Kendrick Lamar’s 'Hey Now'
Tyler, the Creator unwrapped a special gift in the form of a freestyle on Christmas Day.
On Wednesday, December 25, the 2-time Grammy winner dropped a surprise freestyle over Kendrick Lamar and Dody6 collaboration “Hey Now” from the Compton artist’s latest album, “GNX.”
An accompanying video shows Tyler dancing in his “Chromakopia” mask by the 405 freeway entrance, showing off his teeth gems, skating around Hawthorne, California, and hitting the clothing store with friends Jasper Dolphin, Taco Bennett, and Lionel Boyce, also known as L-Boy.
“THAT GUY,” Tyler declared on X.
Tyler’s been friendly with Kendrick for some time, and even welcomed him as co-headliner of the 2023 edition of Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. On Juneteenth, Tyler also made an appearance during Kendrick’s ‘The Pop Out’ concert, performing as part of the Mustard’s DJ set portion, although he was recording “Chromakopia” outside of Los Angeles at the time.
“I wasn’t even supposed to go — I was in Atlanta working on this album,” Tyler told “Billboard” about the last-minute set. “But I landed that morning and couldn’t miss this s–t. And I don’t even get FOMO at all, n—a — I’ll go to sleep. But I’m cool with Kenny and Dave [Free] and Tim [Hinshaw] from Free Lunch. So I went home, showered and ran straight there.”
