Young Thug: 'I Always Had a Michael Jackson Mentality'
In advance of his forthcoming mixtape, Jeffery, Young Thug has put together quite the hilarious trailer and also explained how his name change has been inspired by the likes of Michael Jackson.
The short clip, which was posted to his Instagram, satirically addresses his recent comments regarding the fact he’s changing his name to “No, My Name Is Jeffery,” if and only if his new project, due out this Friday (August 26) sells over 100,000 copies.
The dramatized trailer shows a frustrated Young Thug, who is seated at a table in what appears to be an interrogation room. He insists, “No, my name is Jeffery,” after several are on camera pressuring him and saying they know the “real him.”
In addition to his recent commentary about his possible name change, the rapper also made an appearance on Travi$ Scott’s radio show to talk a little bit more about the personal subject.
“The message is — I just want to get off the Slime Season stuff,” Young Thug says. “The message is just to really go back to who I really am. I really am Jeffery. That’s really my swag.”
The rapper then goes on to compare himself to none other than the late legend Michael Jackson.
“I never had a street mentality,” he continues. “I always had a Michael Jackson mentality. I really am Jeffery.”
Let’s hope that the mixtape does really well Friday, as we could definitely get behind this new identity and era for the rapper-possibly-formerly-known-as-Young-Thug.
