Box Office: Snow White and the Huntsmen Unseats Men in Black 3
Who's the fairest of them all? This weekend, it was Snow White and the Huntsmen, which won the box-office crown with a better-than-expected $56.3 million. The gothic retelling of the classic fairytale managed to unseat Will Smith's Men in Black 3, which took in a not-too-shabby $29.3 million, from the top spot.
Alien fighter Smith and his MiB crew did manage to hold on to No. 1 overseas, however, grossing $79.1 million outside of North America. It managed to beat out Idris Elba's Prometheus, which still did stellar with $35 million from just 15 countries. That means we'll likely see big things from the film come its opening weekend in the States, this Friday.
An array of expanding indies, including Moonrise Kingdom and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, finally kicked Think Like a Man out of the top ten, but the little comedy that could is still adding to its box-office pot of gold with another $660,000 in ticket sales this weekend.
Meanwhile, The Avengers reached another milestone by becoming the third-highest grossing film of all time, just behind James Cameron's twin epics Avatar and Titanic.
Next week, Prometheus makes its North American bow along with Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. Will either of them be able to take Snow White's apple?
