One year after the tragic death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, the Black Lives Matter movement is a force to reckon with and — at the very least — the eyes of the country have opened to the epidemic of police misconduct against Black people.
But those steps forward, while they help Michael Brown Sr. find purpose in his life after losing his son, haven't been able to take away the pain that still lives in his heart. "At the end of the day, I still lost my boy," Brown's father tells the Associated Press. "I'm still hurting. My family's still hurting."

Several events were planned to commemorate Brown's death this weekend. On Saturday, Brown Sr. lead a parade throughout the city, culminating in front of the Ferguson Police Department, where protestors rallied and some carved meat from a roasted pig's head with "Darren Wilson," the name of the former police office who shot and killed Brown, written on the side.

On Sunday, Brown Sr. will lead another march, beginning at the Canfield Drive intersection where his son was killed exactly one year ago. The procession will stop just before noon for a moment of silence, at the exact moment when Brown lost his life. 

Though tensions are understandably high, Brown urged his supporters to focus on his son and not on violence or civil disobedience. "No drama," he said. "No stupidity, so we can just have some kind of peace."
