Al Jarreau Cancels Show Due to Illness
Famed jazz singer Al Jarreau was forced to cancel a concert in California Sunday night [May 20] after being diagnosed with pneumonia. The 72-year-old Grammy-winning artist was scheduled to take the stage at the Centre at Lexus Escondido, but checked into a hospital instead, TMZ reports.
According to a rep, Jarreau's illness follows a hard schedule of touring overseas.
"Mr. Jarreau believes that his illness and fatigue resulted from a very busy week on tour, which included four concerts in Austria," they said. "He will spend a short time recovering at home before resuming his normal work schedule."
Jarreau has won seven Grammys and an additional 12 nominations over a 44-year career. In 2007 he was honored for his performance of "God Bless the Child" with Jill Scott and George Benson.
