Darren Sharper Still Eligible for Hall of Fame Despite Rape Conviction
Despite accepting a plea deal to serve nine years in prison concurrently for all his rape cases, Darren Sharper remains eligible to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Joe Horrigan, the Executive Vice President of the Selection Process for the Hall of Fame, told TMZ Sports that Sharper is eligible to make the cut because there's nothing in the rules that prevents a convicted criminal from being honored in Canton, Ohio. As long as a player has made at least one All-Pro team and has been out of the NFL for five years, he's eligible to make the Hall of Fame.
Sharper, 39, certainly seems to be qualified. He was largely considered one of the best safeties of his era during his 14-season NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints from 1997-2010. He is also a six-time All-Pro selection and five-time Pro Bowler, having also won a Super Bowl with the Saints in 2010 before retiring.
Sharper can technically be eligible to make the Hall of Fame next year.
