Petition Raised To Name Intersection After Nipsey Hussle
Hip-hop’s newest angel Nipsey Hussle was respected by his hip-hop counterparts and L.A. community and will now be revered in memory by those same forces.
Nipsey’s closest family, friends and fans have already vowed to keep his legacy alive and have taken the first step of several to ensure this promise: a new petition to name an intersection in his L.A. stomping grounds after him as “Nipsey Hussle Blvd.”
According to CBS Los Angeles, the Change.org petition was launched on Monday (April 1). The petition’s creator is named as Najee Ali Youth Foundation and calls for L.A. Councilman Harris-Dawson to complete the renaming. “This is a call for LA Councilman Harris-Dawson to name the intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson, Nipsey Hussle way,” the petition’s details read, “In honor of a community icon.” It also urges signees to call and email Harris-Dawson to voice support for the change.
Currently, the petition has reached nearly 400,000 signatures, leaving roughly 100,000 more to go. “I knew Nipsey Hussle personally,” the creator added in the petition’s cause. “He wasn’t just a rapper. He was a community icon.”
BET supports this petition and so can you by heading to Change.org here to sign off on the street renaming in Nipsey’s honor.
