Questlove to Release Memoir in June
The Roots drummer and all-around hip hop Renaissance man Questlove will add author to his resume with the release of Mo' Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove. Co-written by journalist Ben Greenman and published by Grand Central Publishing, the memoir will follow the man born Ahmir Thompson’s two-decade journey to the top of the music industry.
The book will span from his childhood, growing up in 1970's Philadelphia, to his rise to fame as a founding member of the Grammy-award winning hip hop band the Roots. Always a vivid storyteller, Thompson’s accounts of episodes with mega-stars like Jay-Z and Will Smith became a staple of his blog OkayPlayer.com. Fans can expect even more insights into the music world from Mo’ Metta Blues, as well as commentary from the current New York University professor on the state of music culture.
Thompson’s class "Topics in Recorded Music: Classic Albums," covers everything from music business and marketing to pop culture criticism. Professor is just one of the many side hustles he’s picked up since becoming band leader for NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, as he also stays busy by DJing, blogging and recently establishing a catering company that specializes in Creole- and Korean-inspired food.
Mo’ Meta Blues is set for a June 18 release and promises to tell the tales of "some of the lates, the greats, the fakes and the true originals of the music world." The Roots have plans to release their 14th album in 2013, tentatively titled & Then You Shoot Your Cousin..., as well as a collaborative album with Elvis Costello on April 20.
