This Day In Black History: June 8, 1990

A shop owner is arrested after selling the album 2 Live Crew's "As Nasty As They Wanna Be" to an undercover officer.

E-C Records shop owner Charles Freeman was arrested on June 8, 1990, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for selling a copy of 2 Live Crew's As Nasty As They Wanna Be to an undercover police officer.

Freeman was arrested for the distribution of 2 Live Crew's obscene material.

The store owner allegedly purchased copies of the album after U.S. District Court Judge Jose Gonzalez ruled that the album was obscene.

He then, supposedly, sold these copies to a line of customers, selling his last copy when the undercover cop caught him in the act.

"I'll go to jail, and I'll come back and sell it again," Freeman said.
