Report: Kanye West Will Not Be Relocating Donda Academy to LA Church
Kanye West's plans to relocate his Donda Academy from a Simi Valley campus to the Cornerstone Christian Church in Los Angeles hit a bump after a petition received more than 12,000 signatures imploring the church's pastor to decline the rapper's application firmly.
According to The Sun, the Grammy Award winner had been eyeing the new location since November 2022 for his unaccredited private school. The institution began on a ranch but later migrated to a warehouse-style campus in San Fernando Valley.
However, an unidentified source from the church told the outlet last week that the “Jesus Walks” rapper was no longer leasing the space despite recently hosting a Sunday Service at the venue.
"Kanye has had Sunday Service here, but now it's just the regular church, and Ronald has left as well, he's at a different place," the staffer said in a statement.
When asked if the entertainer turned fashion mogul was welcomed, the source stated it was less than likely, citing Ye’s recent controversies. “No, not now, we haven't heard from him.,” they added. “And because of anti-Semitism, people were very upset about the idea.”
The petition was launched by Faithful America, which describes itself as "the largest online community of grassroots Christians acting for social justice."
In an open letter to Pastor Nagin obtained by the outlet, the group wrote highlighted Ye’s past incidents, writing, "On December 1, Ye clutched a Bible and shockingly said 'I see good things about Hitler' and 'I like Hitler' during an appearance on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones's show InfoWars. He has previously tweeted other threats and conspiracy theories about Jewish people."
The note continued, "As your fellow Christians, we strongly object to the possibility of Cornerstone Church renting space to Ye (Kanye West).”
They added, “There is no room in God's house for hatred. Allowing Ye's Donda Academy to operate out of a place of worship would give it and him credibility that, at this point, they do not deserve.”
Despite a decline in enrollment, Ye’s Donda Academy is still operating. Students are currently on summer break.
