Chance The Rapper Reflects On Leaked Video Of Kanye West Lashing Out At Him
Chance the Rapper has had a famous friendship with Kanye West. That said, it hasn’t always been a smooth one.
During a recent interview with The Morning Hustle, Chance reminded those watching that a clip showing ‘Ye reprimanding him in Wyoming during a studio session is part “of a larger moment” and that the full story provides more context.
The clip, according to Complex, is from a Donda documentary that is being produced by former Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Dame Dash. It surfaced in early 2021.
“Sit your ass down and listen to the album or leave,” the "Flashing Lights" rapper yelled at his homie.
And while Chance says the clip doesn’t provide “the full story,” he acknowledged that his relationship with ‘Ye, like others, has its ups and downs.
“It’s a clip of a larger moment like no one’s ever gonna get the full story of what’s going on,” he explained. “And yeah, people do take it and run with it, ’cause I saw some people put, like, fake captions under the video to make it look like he was talking about my music or something like that. But in all honesty, this is real life. I have real friends, and they go through real problems.”
Additionally, Chance said many people took the clip and “exploited” it rather than trying to find out its context.
“I did come out there to check on my friend,” he said. “Me and a lot of other people still have love for Ye. But he’s a human. He’s not perfect. He was obviously going through it at that time. It made me re-evaluate my friendship with him, for sure. I had never been so close to him going through an episode. At the end of the day, I definitely love the dude. That’s my guy. It sucks that sometimes people can exploit a moment that is a genuine moment.”
