Rae Sremmurd Responds to Kris Kross Comparisons
Between the hair, clothing and the fact that they’re a duo, Rae Sremmurd gets why they’ve been likened to Kriss Kross, and they’re not upset with the comparison.
During a Hot 97 interview with Peter Rosenberg this week, the rap newbies, who recently released their SremmLife debut, responded to being called the “2015 Kriss Kross” and explained why it doesn’t faze them. “It’s tight,” said Slim Jimmy just as his group member Swa Lee, elaborated. “It's tight but, 10 years from now they gon’ be telling two other people, ya’ll are the Rae Sremmurd [of your generation]."
Lee added, “I guess ‘cause we present that energy and because we [are] light skinned and dark skinned.”
It’s not just the looks and the style, though. There are other Kriss Kross similarities. Like the former So So Def artists, Rea Sremmurd calls Atlanta home (although they grew up in Mississippi), and are experiencing stardom at a relatively young age. (Lee is 19, and Jimmy is 20.)
Comparisons aside, there's been a lot of organic buzz around the "No Flex Zone" rappers, and they're hoping to make their own mark on rap. “We got bangers for ya’ll, good vibes, and we gon’ keep giving ya’ll good music.”
