Soul, spirit and song took over Dallas this past weekend when the Music Matters Jam Session at Mega Fest took over the convention center.

The two-day showcase included performances by some of the hottest new artists in Christian music. The crowd was pumped and ready for an amazing weekend and the performers did not disappoint.

First up Thursday night was singer/songwriter phenom Jonathan McReynolds, who wowed the crowd with his smooth vocals and his incomparable guitar skills. Mali Music surprised fans by playing keys for Jonathan during his opening set. Those that arrived early enough were treated to an intimate set by a true star in the making.

After helping Jonathan McReynolds warm up the audience, Mali Music stepped out from behind the keyboard to bless the mic. Mali drew the crowd into his musical and spiritual journey as he performed some of his newer hits, including the infectious "Ready Aim." Mali's set was up, but the people wanted more, prompting the show's producers to ask the Jerry Wonda prodigy to give the audience one more track.

Now that the building was spiritually turnt up, it was time for Tye Tribbett to put the finishing touch on a magical evening. And magic it was. Backed by his incredible team of vocalists, Tye brought the house down with his high energy set that had the audience moving their bodies and wanting more. That was a wrap for Thursday but the weekend had just begun, as the following night was primed to turn up another level.

Starting things off Friday was Dallas' own Ashley Kimbrae, who got the crowd going with both covers and her own hits.

The place was pumped for Christian hip hop prodigy Lecrae, who was responsible for a majority of fans there Friday. Lecrae had the place on full blast as he had the full house at his fingertips from start to finish. Fellow Christian hip hop star Derek Minor hit the stage with Lecrae to offer double the impact.

For the main event, Fred Hammond and his United Tenors crew, which included Dave Hollister, Eric Roberson and Brian Courtney Wilson, turned the heat up in Dallas closing out the show the way Fred Hammond does: With worship and wisdom.

The night was over, but Dallas was abuzz with another successful BET Music Matters event.
