Chris Brown Talks Between the Sheets Tour With The Breakfast Club
With the Between the Sheets tour now selling out stadiums, many are wondering how Chris Brown continues to be one of the greatest comeback stories of the era.
"A lot of people don't understand how I'm able to survive, and still put out records," he said on The Breakfast Club this morning, in a chat about the challenges he faces with the media, his girlfriend Karrueche Tran, and in staying relevant with the people.
It's the people who keep him grounded. "Every new record is your new record," he said, "so being able to go out there and see the crowd every night... it's amazing."
The people have also caused a stir wih his image lately. The BTS tour –– with Trey Songz and Tyga –– got off to a shaky start due mostly to rescheduling. Plans were already in motion when he was court ordered to complete his community service before he set out on the road. "They had already approved the tour," he said of the confusion.
There was also multiple occasions when there was gunfire where he had a club appearance, and the way the media haunts him with his own history of violence. He says there are people who tell him, "We're afraid of you." But Breezy just rolls with those punches. "I'm not running from no fades," he said, "but I'm also walking a straight path."
Even with his on-again-off-again love, Karrueche. "That's my girl" he said, adding that they've learned to better maneuver in the mainstream as a couple. "I just feel like, this is my position on it, a lot of the times whether it's an issue in the relationship with her, we don't know how to communicate sometimes... and then you give everybody else the option to depict our relationship." He says they're opting to stay off social media as much with those personal fights.
With ex-girlfriend Rihanna, he says, he's "giving her her space." And he's quiet about Drake. "I don't get no money by talking about him," he insists again. As for Tyga's insinuation that Drizzy is afraid of Brown, too. "I don't got no opinions on none of that," and as for the friendship that everyone figured was budding when they were spotted in the studio together, he says, "I'm cool."
He did reveal, however that he's working on a documentary about the tour, and possibly a book.
His collaboration album with Tyga, Fan of Fan drops Tuesday, Feb. 24.
