Pharrell Becomes the First Man Ever to Be Featured in a Chanel Handbag Campaign

See his latest shots for the brand.

Fashion's embrace of gender neutrality continues to flourish. Pharrell stars in Chanel's latest campaign, consequently making him the first man to appear in a handbag advertisement for the fashion house. And he definitely rocks the murse (that'd be man-purse), might we add.

Chanel's choice in Pharrell isn't entirely surprising, as the artist has been a Friend of Karl (FOK) Lagerfeld for some time now. He formerly starred in a short film alongside model Cara Delevingne, another FOK, in which the pair sang a duet. He's also been rocking Chanel on every single red carpet this awards season and we can't remember the last time we didn't catch the father of four at a Chanel show.

“I was like a nerdy little Black kid on a skateboard. So looking at high-end fashion was something that I really didn’t understand in the very beginning. And then I realized, slowly but surely, man, this is amazing. And although there’s mostly the perception that it’s for women, I just started to see, OK, as a man I can wear some of this. So I would wear sunglasses here, or a jacket there,” Pharrell said at the Chanel show last week

Nothing wrong with a dude wearing a purse. We love seeing steps toward gender fluidity, and though this is a small sentiment, every bit counts.
