Alexis Ohanian Says Cartoon Of Serena Was ‘Blatantly Racist And Misogynistic’
Alexis Ohanian has never shied away from publicly supporting his wife, Serena Williams. When a racist cartoon was published in the Herald Sun after Serena’s loss at the U.S. Open, Ohanian not only slammed the artist but the editor of the newspaper that published the image.
The Reddit founder, who married Williams last year, called the cartoon by Mark Knight “blatantly racist and misogynistic.”
Ohanian also called out Herald Sun editor Damon Johnston, who defended Knight amid criticism by saying: “A champion tennis player had a mega tantrum on the world stage, and Mark’s cartoon depicted that. It had nothing to do with gender or race.”
In a tweet, Ohanian copied a link to Johnston’s profile at the website for the Male Champions of Change, a group that works with “influential leaders to redefine men’s role in taking action on gender inequality. It activates peer groups of influential male leaders, supports them to step up beside women, and drives the adoption of actions across private sector and government.”
While Serena has remained silent regarding her feelings about the cartoon, she appears to be living her best life as mother. The tennis star recently posted an adorable photo of herself with her daughter, Olympia.
