Oprah Winfrey To Receive Prestigious “Crystal Pillar Award”
It was a good 25 years for Oprah Winfrey and the legions of fans who stood by her show-after-show everyday at 4 p.m. Like all good things that come to an end, the biggest star daytime television has ever seen called it quits and has moved on to try something, dare we say, bigger. Even though her last day on the eponymous "The Oprah Winfrey Show" was May 26th, the woman who helped make reading cool again is still going out with a bang.
Tomorrow night, the 38th Daytime Emmy Awards will present Winfrey with a “Crystal Pillar Award” in honor of the woman who single-handedly created a show that has won 47 Emmys, was broadcasted in 145 countries worldwide and who’s couch became the one and only place for celebrities and politicians alike to share personal information. The Vegas event is sure to be entertaining with Wayne Brady hosting the festivities and stars lining up to pay their respects to the Queen of Talk.
Associated Television's Al Schwartz, one of the executive producers for the awards show, tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal, "we thought what we had was a brilliant idea but we didn't realize there would be 20 tributes to Oprah." Gladys Knight is set to host the homage with mega-music-selling songstress Celine Dion scheduled to do her part as well.
