Will Floyd Mayweather Jr. Return to Boxing for a Nine-Digit Pay Day?
How can boxing lure Floyd Mayweather Jr. out of retirement? Show him the money, of course!
The undefeated boxing legend admitted that he has been speaking with CBS and Showtime, seemingly leaving the window of opportunity open for a possible return. Money Mayweather added that a nine-digit pay day would help urge his cause.
"Everyone is asking me, 'Is Floyd Mayweather coming back?' Right now, I'm happy being on this side (promoting), but I've been talking with CBS and Showtime, and you just never know. But right now, I'm just happy on this side," Mayweather told ESPN this past weekend. "As of right now, some crazy numbers have been thrown my way — upwards, of course, nine figures. But I'm truly blessed beyond belief, and I really don't know what we're going to do. But right now, I'm really happy being on this side helping fighters."
Further fueling Mayweather's words is an ESPN report saying that his company filed for trademarks to "TMT 50" and "TBE 50" last month. Remember, Floyd walked away from the fight game with a 49-0 record last September, tying him with Rocky Marciano's for boxing's best all-time record. A 50th win would be the cherry on top to The Money Team's boss's claim to be The Best Ever.
Who would he fight, though?
Perhaps, a Manny Pacquiao rematch? The winner of a possible Gennady Golovkin-Canelo Alvarez match? Maybe even a fight against former friend Adrien Broner?
Already, Broner is saying that he'd be Mayweather's biggest fight to date.
All those names would seemingly be on the table. Let's see how this pans out.
