Andre 3000 Solo Album Coming Next Year?
It's beginning to look a lot like 3 Stacks is back. This weekend (Aug. 3), the source himself, André Benjamin, a.k.a. Andre 3000, a.k.a. one-half of OutKast revealed to Stephen G. Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials for BET, that he has an album releasing in 2014.
The two spoke backstage at the Washington, D.C., stop of Lil Wayne's and T.I.'s America's Most Wanted tour. Hill broke the news via Twitter like a TV script.
"Me: hey what's up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah...and I got a solo album coming top of the year. Me:*droptofloor*," he wrote.
Dré, unlike his OutKast partner Big Boi, has yet to release a solo album, and the last full-length project the duo worked on was 2006's Idlewild, the soundtrack to their musical movie (his 2003 The Love Below was sold as a part of a double CD along with Big Boi's Speakerboxx).
He has, however, worked on a fashion line (Benjamin Bixby) and has been featured on songs like the Grammy-nominated "Back to Black" with Beyoncé, "Interlude" on Weezy's Carter IV, and "Play the Guitar" with Hustle Gang's B.o.B. Dré is also starring as Jimi Hendrix in All by My Side, a biopic focused on the legendary musician's pre-fame days.
And though the new album news also came with the obligatory rep denial ("There's no official confirmation," an unnamed rep told Billboard), in July, producer Mike Will Made It posted a quick clip of him in the studio with 3K. *fingerscrossed*
