Run the Jewels Drop Emotionally-Charged Video for 'Early'
Killer Mike and El-P never bite their tongue when it comes to political issues.
Their recent drop, the visuals for “Early,” off their 2014 album Run the Jewels 2, is a live account of police brutality and its message still holds true in light of the death of Freddie Gray. Although the track wasn’t inspired by Gray or even Michael Brown, the song’s lyrics touch on racial dynamics.
In the official video, the duo illustrates their lyrics through a dark, animated cartoon. Mike gets harassed for weed possession in his hometown while El-P walks the streets of NYC unbothered by police. Throughout the four-minute clip, we see everything through first-hand accounts.
