Saints Strip Darren Sharper of Championship Honor
Images of Darren Sharper are no longer a welcomed sight where the New Orleans Saints play their home games.
Nearly two months after Sharper reached a global plea agreement that will have him serving a maximum of nine years in prison for drug-and-attack rapes, the Saints have decided to remove their former star safety from their Champions Square area outside of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the New Orleans Advocate is reporting.
"It's common sense," Saints executive Ben Hales told the Advocate. "We don't even want the perception that that's an individual we're celebrating."
The image was of Sharper celebrating the Super Bowl XLIV-clinching touchdown.
Sharper is in prison after pleading guilty to several cases of drugging and raping women across several states.
Despite his rape conviction, Sharper is still eligible to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
