The war of words between the Congressional Black Caucus and Tea Party politicians shows no sign of letting up — and the rhetoric is getting hotter.

Rep. André Carson of Indiana told a crowd at a Congressional Black Caucus event in Miami that some Tea Party politicians wanted a return to the Jim Crow era, adding that some Tea Party pundits would like to see Blacks "hanging on a tree,” the Associated Press reports.

In the speech, which has been circulating online, Carson reportedly used a lynching metaphor to describe how some Tea Party policies would return Blacks to “second class citizens.”

Carson’s comments were first reported on Tuesday by the Glenn Beck-owned website The Blaze.

Tea Party supporters have since demanded an apology.

Rep. Allen West of Florida, who recently made waves because of his own controversial comments, said on Fox & Friends that he might quit the organization as the lone Republican member.

Carson told the AP Wednesday that no one on the CBC would "lose sleep" if West left the panel because of the comments.He added that while he wishes he would have chosen different analogies in his speech, he would not have changed its substance, writes AP.
