BET Awards '20: Sprinkle Of Black Love At The BET Awards

We could all use a smile right now.

It doesn’t have to be a special holiday to celebrate Black love. During this trying time of international protests and the COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever, we could use some good news or even a little hope.

Fortunately, the 2020 BET Awards are on the way (June 28 that 8 pm EST) and we will have many reasons to smile and be joyful as we highlight the best in Black artists.  While we wait for that day to come, let’s take a look at the Black love that has been showcased at the BET Awards since the show launched in 2001.

Ja Rule and his wife Aisha had only been married for a few months back in 2001 when they arrived at the inaugural BET Awards. Ja Rule was nominated for Best Male Hip Hop Artist that year. He lost out to Jay-Z, but looks like they still had a good time just being together.

  2. Magic Johnson and Cookie (2003)

NBA Legend Magic Johnson and his wife Cookie were all smiles at the 2003 BET Awards.  In 2021, the couple will be celebrating 30 years of marriage. There has to be a little bit of “magic” for a union to last that long.

  3. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith (2005)

Clearly, Will and Jada had a grand old time hosting the BET Awards in 2005. Their undeniable chemistry and energy kept the crowd going all night. Maybe the key to a long marriage is laughter.
