Donald Sterling Backs Out of Toy Drive in Watts
Donald Sterling thought otherwise about handing out toys in the projects.
After initially agreeing to handing out gifts to kids in the Watts Housing Projects, as part of the Chrismukkah Soirée "Party in the Projects," on Saturday, the shamed ex-Los Angeles Clippers owner pulled out of the event due to fear for his safety. Reps for Sterling told TMZ Sports that they pulled him from the appearance shortly after the celebrity news site posted the original story of him.
Based on Sterling's racist rant against African-Americans, the ex-owner's handlers thought things could get heated very quickly if he were to show up in Watts on Saturday, thus the reason for pulling out. Also, Los Angeles councilman Joe Buscaino, whose represented areas covers Watts, demanded that Sterling stay away from the area and keep his toys to himself.
