Until We Meet Again, Oprah

The Oprah Winfrey Show ends its run with an intimate show.

Today marked the end of the road for the 25-year-long run of the Oprah Winfrey Show.

After 4,561 episodes and 30,000 guests, Winfrey says that “It has been the greatest gift that you [the viewers] could have given to me.”

Two out of the three finale shows aired Monday and Tuesday. They included star-studded guests ranging from Maya Angelou and Madonna to John Travolta and Beyoncé. Through testimonies and performances, the stars all gave their personal thanks to the media mogul.

Today, a less glamorous, more intimate show aired. On her finale episode, Oprah graced the stage alone.

With a backdrop saying “25 years,” Winfrey showed clips of life-changing shows on topics including alcoholism and addiction. She also revisited some reality-television episodes and jokingly expressed, “I’m glad that we grew out of that.”

Though she says she has no regrets, Winfrey does wish that she could have brought more attention to sexual molestation and abuse amongst children. One of her proudest moments she says is when Tyler Perry gave his testimony about being sexually molested as a child and was then joined on stage by 200 men who suffered the same abuse as young boys.

Winfrey expressed that no matter the story, through all of her guests she has learned that everyone simply wants to be heard, to be validated. No matter the caliber of person, Winfrey believes that people want to know, “I see you; I hear you, and what you say matters to me.”

Winfrey acknowledged that her staff will continue to work with her on the OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. She also revealed the million dollar question that she has been asked numerous times: the secret to the success of her show. Her answer? “My team and Jesus.”

We can be sure that this is not the end of the road for this pioneering African-American billionaire, entrepreneur and strong woman.

"I won't say goodbye, I'll just say until we meet again," she told her fans.

Farewell, until we meet again, Oprah.
