Viral Pic Of White Trump Voter With Gun Sparks Racist Debate On Lack Of Support For Black Gun Owners
"One is a responsible person who is proud of her right to carry. The other is just a person trying to be a thug."
As the debate for legislative gun reform grows, a college senior in Tennessee let her stance be known with a controversial graduation photo featuring a gun.
Brenna Spencer, 22, is graduating from University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in May and on Saturday, she shared a senior photo of herself in a hot pink “Trump for Women” T-shirt with a handgun in the waistband of her jeans.
Spencer captioned the post, “I don’t take normal graduation photos …”
The senior wanted the photo to “show who I am as a person,” she told ABC News.
Eventually, the photo went viral due to its provocative nature.
“I did think that it would get a little attention but not to this degree,” Spencer told ABC. “It was really, really surprising to see the amount of hate that I got.”
Spencer's photo received criticism from gun reform advocates and praise from Trump voters
Eventually, a Black woman posted a picture of herself with a gun to point out the hypocrisy when it comes to people of color with firearms
