This Day in Black History: June 6, 1994

Stevie Wonder performed at the Duke Ellington School for the Arts in Washington, D.C., on June 6, 1944.

Washington, D.C.'s Duke Ellington School of the Arts boasts an extraordinarily talented body of students who hone their skills early on in several artistic areas and technical production. The high school also attracts the support of legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, who performed there on June 6, 1994, as part of its 20th anniversary celebration.

On February 26, 2010, Wonder also performed at a special Kennedy Center concert to benefit the school.

Alums include Dave Chappelle and Denyce Graves. Earth, Wind and Fire and Smokey Robinson also have performed at the school to help raise funds to support its mission.
