Nipsey Hussle's Sister Granted Ongoing Custody Of His Daughter

A visitation scheduled in Emani's best interest is reportedly being worked out.

According to TMZ, Nipsey Hussle's younger sister, Samantha Smith, will continue to be the primary guardian for the late rapper's daughter, Emani Asghedom, after Smith filed a request for guardianship back in April.

  • The court ruled that 10-year-old Emani will continue to live with, and remain under the primary custody of, her aunt until further notice. As The Blast  previously reported, Smith and Emani's mother, Tanisha Foster, went to court after Nipsey’s younger sister filed a petition to be Emani's legal guardian. Although Smith's petition received the support of Nipsey's father, Dewit Asghedom, and brother, Samiel Asghedom, her initial request for immediate guardianship was denied.
Court documents obtained by The Blast cited Smith's goal for obtaining guardianship of her niece as a way to “ensure [Emani's] continued stability," while guaranteeing she "can continue to live with family members with whom she has always had close ties."

  • At an appearance for their initial scheduled court date last Tuesday (May 14), Foster was cited by TMZ as having an emotional breakdown in court after seeing her daughter for the first time in three months. Following the emotional reunion, the guardianship hearing was rescheduled for Friday, May 17.
According to the media outlet, Tanisha's lawyer, Larry Lewellyn, told TMZ that he's "working with Nipsey's family on a visitation schedule that will be in Emani's best interest."

  • Nipsey's family and Foster are scheduled back in court in July.
