Ray Rice Could Be Reinstated Soon
Ray Rice could be reinstated within a month’s time, sources tell CBS Sports.
The Baltimore Ravens running back—who was cut from the team and suspended by the NFL indefinitely following the video release of him punching his now-wife Janay Rice—has an appeal hearing date set and could be granted a return to the league as soon as mid-November.
Even though teams may still stay away from the controversial rusher, CBS Sports reports that his playing status via the appeal process may likely be decided before the NFL’s investigation into the handling of Rice’s case by former FBI chief Robert Mueller.
The appeal is before U.S. District Court Judge Barbara S. Jones and could be decided by Week 10, seemingly allowing an NFL team to pick up the troubled rusher for the stretch run of the season. CBS Sports cites the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots as possible suitors for Rice if he indeed wins his reinstatement.
Rice insists that he didn’t lie to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell during their meeting back in June. The veteran running back was originally suspended by the league for two games upon his arrest over the February domestic violence incident involving his then-fiancée, now wife in an Atlantic City, New Jersey hotel. But that changed once the surveillance video of Rice striking his spouse hit the net.
