The officer who shot and killed Korryn Gaines and injured her son, Kodi, after a seven-hour standoff will face no charges, said the Gaines family lawyer. 

J. Wyndal Gordon, the family's attorney, said that they do not expect any criminal charges to come as a result of the shooting that took place on August 1. On Wednesday, Gordon and Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger will meet to discuss the details of the case.

The office of Shellenberger has said that they will release no comments until the meeting between him and Gordon has taken place.

When it comes to the reasoning behind the lack of charges against the officer who killed the young mother, Gordon does not anticipate a grand explanation.

"Basically, 'We investigated ourselves, and we found that we didn't do anything wrong,'" Gordon said. "That's what I expect them to say."

Gordon is representing the family in the wrongful death lawsuit they recently filed. According to their lawsuit, the family alleged that a neighbor heard Gaines agree to surrender before she was fatally shot.

Although no public statements have been made regarding the charges, Gordon believes the department will press no charges against the officer. Prosecutors have said that any announcement regarding charges should be communicated to the family first. Gordon believes the prosecution's lack of presence is reason enough to believe no charges will occur.

"They confirmed it by their silence," said Gordon. "The tone and tenor of the conversation lead me to believe they will not be filing charges."
