Morgan Freeman Calls Tea Party 'Racist'

Says the political group is out to get Obama.

Morgan Freeman isn’t bringing any sugar to the Tea Party. The actor used his iconic voice to air his discontent over the conservative political group on Piers Morgan Tonight, telling the British host that he believes Barack Obama’s presidency has exacerbated racism in America.

"Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term," the actor said. "What underlines that? 'Screw the country. We’re going ... to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here.'"

Claiming that "it's a racist thing," Freeman said the Tea Party’s popularity has shown “the weak, dark underside of America."

"We’re supposed to be better than that. We really are. That’s ... why all those people were in tears when Obama was elected president. ‘Ah, look at what we are. Look at how, this is America.’ You know? And then it just sort of started turning because these people surfaced, like stirring up muddy water."

No word on whether Freeman — who voted for Obama in 2008 but refused to campaign for him, stating that he’s an actor, not a politician — will turn his opinions into action for 2012.
