Snoop Dogg Speaks Out On New Abortion Ban Laws
As one of the few hip-hop voices joining the conversation on women’s rights, Snoop Dogg used his Instagram platform on Thursday (May 16) to make a statement that’s been ravaging across the internet: “Men shouldn’t be making laws about women’s bodies.”
Snoop posted the meme that’s been making social media rounds in response to Alabama and Georgia’s new abortion laws, which ban almost all abortions in the states and would imprison doctors who carry out the procedure. Along with other Hollywood voices like John Legend and Tracee Ellis-Ross, Snoop also believes that men—which makes up the overwhelming majority of the Senate—should have no voice in legislation that directly affect women and, more narrowly, their reproductive rights.
Snoop's thoughts come just one day after Rihanna condemned the law, the 25 white male Senate seats and white female Governor Kay Ivey.
The hope now is that more musicians with widespread platforms and influence follow suit.
