As big as the blockbuster deal was for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics, you’d think everyone involved would’ve done their homework, right?

Well apparently, that didn’t quite happen as the Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas trade is in serious jeopardy of not actually going through. Technically, the deal wasn’t finalized and after officials from the Cavs evaluated their traded-for pointguard, they through up a block to the whole thing, at least temporarily.

Thomas missed several games when the Cavaliers and Celtics faced off in last season’s Eastern Conference Finals after he re-aggravated a hip injury he endured during Game 6 of Boston’s second-round playoff bout against the Washington Wizards.

Some reports had listed Thomas’ injury has a hip strain, but it’s unclear publicly how hurt he’s remained.

Already-established bylaws by the NBA state that all teams in a trade must disclose in writing all information about their respective players when it comes to health and ability to play basketball. The players are also required to take physical examinations, which Thomas did on Friday.

“Uncertainty over the fitness of his injured hip has Cavaliers officials evaluating the results and considering possible ramifications to the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics earlier this week,” reported ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
