Aubrey O' Day and Shannon Bex Clear Up Rumors About Fighting With Dawn Richard
We’ll probably never get a Danity Kane reunion and here’s why.
Earlier this year, Dawn Richard swung by The Breakfast Club to promote her new solo album, Blackheart. While it’s dope that she’s found herself as a solo artist, many of us wanted to know why Danity Kane’s short-lived reunion didn’t see the light of day two years ago when they announced it in August. According to rumor reports, Dawn got into a fight with member Aubrey O’ Day and allegedly punched her in the head. That resulted in Aubrey filing a battery report against Dawn and ended the group’s ambitions of getting back to together.
“The problem with Danity Kane is everybody wanted to play everybody’s role, and when you’re in a group like that, that can’t survive — everybody can’t be Kobe on the team,” Dawn said. “A quarterback cannot decide tomorrow to say, ‘I’m gonna be a wide receiver.’ He might be a really great runner, but when it’s time to get this championship ring, everybody has to play a part.”
Dawn later admits that she did hit Aubrey, but went on to explain her actions.
“There is no excuse for my behavior but what I’m saying is everybody gets pushed to a limit,” she says. “When something is poisoning and you go into the studio and people are literally going behind your back and lying to you and taking your vocals and doing things that are shady. That’s foul.”
On this morning’s edition of The Breakfast Club, Aubrey and Shannon Bex got into the nitty gritty of their dispute while introducing their new group, Dumblonde. In their story, they wanted to make it clear that there was no brawl. “There was only one person who was acting erratic and cussing and sucker punched one other member and that was it,” Shannon says. “That’s how it went down.”
Aubrey added her perspective on the matter, saying old habits really never go away.
“You have to understand that we’ve been in business for almost about 12 years as a brand,” Aubrey says. “Even through splitting the first time, which was Diddy’s call, we still maintained relevancy individually in the marketplace … but when we came back together, we’d have hope that a lot of things from the past has changed and they hadn’t. We were dealing with a situation where bad habits were now ingrained into everyone.”
At the 6:40 mark, Aubrey goes on to explain why manipulation and lying in certain situations led to her dispute with Dawn, mainly because she had her own solo work priorities over the group’s best interests. Fast forward to the halfway point, the girls talk about why they decided to form Dumblonde, but not before they gave Dawn a chance to apologize.
Needless to say, it only gets juicier. Watch it below.
