3 Things You Didn’t Know About Chico Bean
The 85 South guys are returning to host the 16th annual BET Hip Hop Awards for the second consecutive time tonight, October 5 at 9 PM ET/PT on BET.
Comprised of DC Young Fly, Karlous Miller, and Chico Bean, the comedic supergroup are easily some of the funniest personalities out today, reinventing the stand-up comedy model by incorporating hip hop, going on stage in threes and abandoning all unspoken rules that were set up before them.
While all three work in tandem, each of the southern gentlemen offers something completely different to the fray. DC Young Fly, for example, does music. And you can’t forget Karlous Miller, your catch-all relationship guru who coined the phrase “Black Men Don’t Cheat”.
As the monumental night in hip hop inches closer, let’s take a deeper look at Chico Bean.
A Newcomer At Heart
Oftentimes when you see successes such as Chico’s, it comes with the testimony of toiling comedy clubs for decades before catching a big break. Well, not Mr. Bean.
Born Anthony Jamal Bean, the southern gentleman has been performing comedy for less than six years and is already headlining venues from New York to Los Angeles, opening for established comedians like Chris Wiles and even helped found the NC Comics All-Stars as well as NC’s Freestyle Funny Comedy Show.
It wasn’t until Nick Cannon saw him at The Freestyle Funny Comedy Show that he was brought on to the show.
“Old School Fools”
Chico Bean can do it all. From freestyling and stand-up to hosting himself, the 33-year-old comedian has a talent you can see miles away.
A bit of his that helped skyrocket him into fame that stands out, however, is his ability to rock the mic like an old school rapper from the ‘80s. In fact, he and fellow cast member Karlous Miller have dubbed themselves the “Old School Fools”, bringing old school soul to a new school platform.

Mr. Endorsement Deals
Chico has done good with his newfound success, booking national fast food and athletic advertising campaigns as well as touring the country.
Most notably is his 2019 #DiscoverYourAir campaign with Foot Locker. Titled, “Air It Out,” the stop also stars basketball influencers Dylan and Dakota Gonzalez, and comedian Corey Charron.
Going Hollywood
But even more than endorsements, Chico has been perfecting his craft and furthering his career. He’s recently worked as a writer & actor on the upcoming E! network sketch comedy series The James Davis Project.
