Officer Roy Oliver Fired After Fatally Shooting 15-Year-Old Jordan Edwards
The Texas police officer responsible for shooting and killing 15-year-old Jordan Edwards has been fired, said Police Chief Jonathan Haber at a press conference on Tuesday.
"After reviewing the findings, I have made the decision to terminate Roy Oliver's employment with the Balch Springs Police Department," Haber told reporters. "My department will continue to be responsive, transparent and accountable."
Oliver — a six-year veteran on the force — shot Edwards as he and friends attempted to leave a rowdy house party on Saturday evening. After the shooting, Haber originally said Oliver shot at the car because it was backing up towards the officer “in an aggressive manner.”
The story later changed upon review of the officer’s body camera.
"It did not meet our core values," Chief Haber said on Monday in regard to Oliver’s actions to shoot into the passenger side of the car.
Haber added that Oliver could appeal his termination.

Edwards family attorney Lee Merritt tweeted their fight does not end with his firing
"We are grateful the decision has been made to terminate the officer responsible for Jordan's murder. Over the past 24 hours, Chief Haber has made commendable strides toward justice," Merritt said in a statement as reported by New York Daily News. "However, there remains a long road ahead."
