A fifth Vanderbilt University player was indicted Friday for helping his four teammates cover up their act of allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman in a dorm room in June. Sean Boyd, 21, turned himself into the police and has been suspended from the team until further investigation, according to the Associated Press.
Two other California men, who knew defendant Brandon Vandenburg, were also indicted Friday for tampering with evidence. Vandenburg, 19-year-old Cory Batey, Brandon Banks and Jaborian McKenzie, both 19, were indicted on Monday Aug. 12 on five counts of aggravated rape and aggravated sexual battery. Vandenburg is also charged with tampering with evidence and one count of unlawful photography.
The teammates were allegedly in Vandenburg's dorm room when they raped the unconscious woman. He currently remains in jail on $350,000 bail while his teammates have bonded out.
An arraignment for the case is scheduled for Aug. 21. McKenzie has already pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to the Associated Press.
