How The Migos Stay Relevant
Born Quavious Keyate Marshall (Quavo), Kiari Kendrell Cephus (Offset) and Kirshnik Khari Ball (Takeoff) , the Atlanta hip hop trio, Migos, has had their stamp on the culture for almost a decade.
While they got together in 2009, their 2012 local smash “Bando” cemented them as the next big thing in hip hop. Then came the “Versace” remix featuring Drake, a year later and, as the saying goes, “nothing was the same.”
From their debut studio album, Yung Rich Nation in 2015, to their Culture series — Culture (2017) Culture II (2018) Culture III (2021) — the band of cousins have not slipped or faulted, despite some thinking they would.
But just how have they done it? With their album nominated for “Album of The Year” at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards, here’s a look at how the group continues to succeed.
Perfected Their Flow
“WE THE GREATEST WE ARE CULTURE THE FLOW YOU STOLE”, Offset wrote in an Instagram post this past July one month after the release of his group’s fourth studio album, Culture III.
And he’s right. To think because Culture II had a disappointing outing in 2018, only selling 200k their first week to say they failed would be an unfair write-off, which is why they came back to the flow that got them there.
The album has elicited positive feedback, with much praise going to the emphasis they placed on providing a variety of flows on the project. And if that wasn’t enough, while on their promo run, the group dropped on the LA Leakers radio show to show off how sharp they still are.
Stick Together
While many have speculated if the Migos would or should break up, the fact they’ve stuck together is why they’ve been so successful.
Whether it be seamlessly filling in each other’s ad-libs, acting in Donald Glover's Atlanta, or appearing on guest features, their chemistry is the glue that has made them last.
What else do you expect from real blood? (Quavo and Offset are cousins and Takeoff is Quavo's nephew).

Entrepreneurship
Money makes the world go round and the Migos definitely wouldn’t be around as long as they have without the revenue to support all three of them and their prospective families.
Whether you want to look at Offset investing in one of the biggest and most influential names in competitive gaming in Faze Clan, their deal with Rap Snacks or their partnership with athletic apparel retailer Finish Line, the trio is never slow to the bag.
Fashion
The Migos manage to stay relevant because they occupy multiple lanes, one being fashion.
One could argue no one truly made designers part of their drip until the Migos started donning the red carpet. Known for their iced out chains, expensive clothes, the group impacted hip hop culture and fashion,
Peep their coordinated, softly colored suits designed by their stylist Zoe Costello and Alba Legacy and their leather harnesses by Zana Bayne at the 2019 BET Awards. Who else can pull that off?
