Even the greatest player in the world couldn't defeat the best team.

LeBron James used the 2015 NBA Finals to leave no doubt that he's the best basketball player on the planet. Unfortunately for King James and his Cleveland Cavaliers, this was Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors' year and they more than proved to be the top team in the league.

The Warriors scored a 105-97 victory over the Cavs in Game 6 of the NBA Finals at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday night to win the NBA championship. The title caps Golden State's 67-win season, in which Curry was named the league's MVP. It also marks the franchise's first championship since 1975. 

Andre Iguodala didn't start a single game this season until the championship round, where he averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and four assists per game to be named the NBA Finals MVP.

The Warriors clinched the chip by doing what they've been doing all season long—shooting lights out and getting contribution from their total team. Curry and Iguodala each scored 25 points and Draymond Green notched a triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to help the Warriors overcome another monstrous effort from King James, who finished with 32 points, 18 boards and nine assists. Altogether, James averaged a ridiculous 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists during these Finals.

Undermanned without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, the Cavs just didn't have enough to overcome the talent and depth of the Warriors. James was easily the Finals' most dominant player, but wound up two wins shy of helping deliver the city its first title in 51 years.

With 10 seconds left in Game 6, James congratulated Curry and Warriors' first-year coach Steve Kerr, who became the first rookie coach to win the NBA title since Pat Riley in 1982.
