Nicki Minaj Appears on The Today Show
Nicki Minaj performed on NBC's The Today Show this morning in promotion of the release of her sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. During the show, the Harajuku Barbie performed her hit single "Starships" and sat for an interview in which she discussed Madonna, her Super Bowl performance and her excitment for finally visiting her international Barbies and Kens.
"I'm about to start my world tour this year," Nicki told Matt Lauer. "My fans across seas have been going crazy. I'm just excited. More than anything for me is the fact that this album's now done and on the way and I can go see my fans."
The Queens MC also discussed her great admiration for iconic singer Madonna, whom she performed alongside at the Super Bowl halftime show earlier this year. "I had the pleasure of working with her, and I feel she's really changed and reinvented not only herself, but pop culture," Minaj shared. "What inspires me about Madonna is that she's able to balance all of this with her family and her personal life, and I told her that."
"She's just everything, and that's what made me so nervous before I went on," she continued. "At one point, I was literally about to freeze up when I was waiting to go up on the stage — knees shaking, hands freezing cold, everything."
Minaj is making her media rounds in promotion of the album. Earlier this week, she appeared on Funkmaster Flex's Hot 97 radio show to discuss her favorite female rappers and her disappointment at not getting Lauryn Hill to feature on her song "Champion."
Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is projected to sell 200,000-250,000 copies in its first week of sales.
