Controversy has followed a new law in Georgia that allows gun owners with a concealed weapons permit to carry their guns in more public places.
The law that went into effect Tuesday lists some schools, restaurants, bars and stores as places where guns can be legal to carry. And unless prohibited by the leaders of a place of worship, weapons can be allowed where congregants pray.

Concealed weapons are also legal in airports outside of the screening checkpoints, parking lots and areas where unscreened passengers and visitors are already allowed to walk.
A bartender at the Hummingbird in Macon, Georgia, told WMAZ that their establishment does not want guns there. "We just don't feel like guns and alcohol mix and we don't want it inside of the bar. This is nothing new for us, we just don't feel like they have a place here," says Amanda Irons.

Some stores have announced that they are opting out of this new provision. Target's CEO released a statement Wednesday asking customers not to bring weapons into their stores. 
"Our approach has always been to follow local laws, and of course, we will continue to do so," wrote John Mulligan. "But starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target – even in communities where it is permitted by law."
But this could mean more opposition from supporters of the law. "Bar owners will be targeted for boycotts," Alice Johnson, director of Georgians for Gun Safety, told 11Alive. "All kinds of public relations problems."
