Dilla Day Weekend Heads to Miami
Joey Bada$, Talib Kweli, Pete Rock and Slum Village will be on hand for Dilla Day Weekend going down in Miami next month. The annual event, honoring J. Dilla, has expanded to three days, kicking off Feb. 5.
Besides extending to an entire weekend, this year’s celebration relocates down to Florida from its usual spot in the late producer’s hometown of Detroit. Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey (a.k.a. Ma Dukes), will host. “Dilla's music is timeless and lives in all of us," said Yancey. "I expect Miami to become the icon of event holders for the Dilla legacy, and raise the bar for events globally."
Dilla Day Weekend festivities include a producer’s panel, meet and greet and barbecue, plus live performances from the aforementioned names, as well as Black Milk, Esta, Camp Lo and music by “Miami’s finest,” the flyer states. More artists will be announced at a later date.
